With effect from 14th January 2013, Western Australia has adopted the nationwide LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme).
So, what does this mean? In a nutshell, it means that a person holding a R-E - previously restricted to 250cc - will be licensed to ride a motorcycle with an engine capacity not exceeding 660cc AND a power to weight ratio not exceeding 150KW per tonne.
All motorcycles built before 1960 (not exceeding 660cc) are approved.
All motorcycles with electric powered engines are approved.
All motorcycles with an engine capacity less than 260cc are approved, with the exception of the following:
